Shangri-La Springs Hosts Bonita Springs Student Arts Festival

Shangri-La Springs will host the first Bonita Springs Student Arts Festival April 18. Nearly 300 pieces of student art will be on display throughout the property from 10 a.m.to 8 p.m. Student musical performances are planned from 5:30 p.m.-8 p.m.

The free event is a collaboration between Bonita Springs Elementary, Spring Creek Elementary, Bonita Middle Center of the Arts, Bonita High School and Bonita Springs Charter School. A variety of activities and performances will be featured throughout the property, including at the Longhouse and Courtyard, Oak Creek Lawn, Octagon Breezeway, Spa Lawn, and the Great House. In addition to visual artwork on display, enjoy dancing with student theater groups, and performances by school choirs, Bonita Springs High School band and Bonita Middle schools steel drums.

“Shangri-La Springs has been supporting the arts since March of 2013 with gallery exhibits, art and nature nights on the property, and classes, so hosting student artists is natural,” said Lee Bellamy, Shangri-La Springs general manager. “As a historic property in Bonita Springs, it’s our pleasure to support area students and schools with this event.”

Beer, wine, water and iced tea will be available for purchase, with $1 of every purchase donated to Bonita Springs schools. The Center for the Arts in Bonita Springs is donating display units for the event. While admission to the event is free, donations are encouraged to support the arts in Bonita Springs schools.

“It’s so exciting to have this collaborative event with Bonita Springs schools showcasing visual, music and performing arts talent at historic Shangri-La Springs,” said David Martin, Visual Arts District Specialist K-12 at Bonita Springs Elementary school. “As arts programming flourishes at Bonita Springs schools, we hope to make this first-time arts celebration an annual event.”
